The Lleida-Alguaire Airport has conducted the first flight tests using electric power generated by the Nomad system. This mobile charging station, developed by the Catalan company Methanol Reformer SL, is capable of transforming renewable methanol—produced sustainably—into hydrogen or electricity. As a result, the unit functions as a mobile hydrogen refueling station or charging point.
The system has been designed to enable refueling with these alternative fuels anywhere and whenever needed, without requiring a connection to the electrical grid, ensuring flexibility, efficiency, and independence.
The flight tests were carried out using the only electric aircraft in Catalonia, owned by the Barcelona-Sabadell Aeroclub. Additionally, the company took the opportunity to conduct charging tests with a hydrogen-powered vehicle from the company Evarm.
Aeroports de Catalunya has established a collaboration agreement with Methanol Reformer SL to conduct trials of this innovative system at its facilities in Ponent. This initiative aligns with its commitment to decarbonization and the development of low-carbon fuel solutions.

The event brought together companies from the alternative fuels, hydrogen, and electricity sectors to assess the robustness of this new refueling system.
Potential clients at Lleida-Alguaire Airport include flight schools and universities specializing in industrial engineering, energy, or environmental studies, as well as companies working with electricity and hydrogen that may see value in Methanol Reformer’s mobile system.
